Hi everyone! ☀️ I’m Aisyah Nuraini Amalia Pribadi, an International Relations student at Universitas Jenderal Achmad Yani, currently interning at Universiti Sains Malaysia under the Maritime Nusantara and Sustainability Policy Initiative.

Coastal communities are on the front lines of environmental change. In Sungai Batu, Penang, land reclamation is reshaping the seascape, forcing local fishermen to adapt as fish stocks decline and operational costs rise. Their stories reflect the urgent need for sustainable policies that balance development with livelihoods.

This video amplifies their voices—real people facing real challenges. Let’s listen, learn, and advocate for a more sustainable future. 🌊💙

@qiirei – Voices of Sungai Batu Fishermen in Pulau Pinang Hello! My name is Aisyah Nuraini Amalia Pribadi, an International Relations student at Universitas Jenderal Achmad Yani. As of February 2025, I joined the Student Mobility Program and am currently attending Universiti Sains Malaysia as part of an internship under the Maritime Nusantara and Sustainability Policy Initiative at the Centre for Policy Research. Among the many exciting experiences here, one of the most eye-opening was my trip to Sungai Batu-a coastal fishing village in Penang. I had the chance to meet local fishermen, hear their stories, and learn firsthand how land reclamation is impacting their daily lives. From declining fish stocks to increasing costs and the struggle of having to fish farther out at sea, these fishermen are facing real challenges that threaten their way of life. This video captures their voices-their worries, their hopes, and the reality of being a fisherman in Sungai Batu today. But the story doesn't end here! Thank you for watching, and I hope this sheds light on an issue that deserves more attention. @CPR USM #tambaklautpulaupinang #tolaktambaklaut ♬ original sound – qiirei
